Why I'm a Libertarian

My convictions tell me I'm right, but experience tells me I can't force anyone to believe it . . .

I'm a Christian. Don't worry, I won't go into it at length here. Though I love to tell people about what I believe since I know they could benefit as well, I also know that to force my morality on them would result only in resistance - and legitimately so!

The typical evangelical Christian votes for conservative Republicans - the party that says it supports financial freedoms and family values. Their stand on financial freedom is a farce - they tax and spend as much as the Democrats. But family values dictated from an impersonal and corruptible institution? This should be the last thing that Christians should support. Let me explain.

Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely

We've all heard this phrase. In any one person you may find the integrity to not abuse power and victimize others, though from what I've seen of people, I doubt it. However, an impersonal organization such as government lacks all accountability and 'feelings' in dealing with others, and thus leaves virtually no chance that conscience will be a guide to integrity. On the 'Links and References' page I list Biblical proofs for the principle of absolute power corrupting absolutely. If you're interested, take a look. But here's the real-world equivalent.

G.E.R.M. Warfare!

Government Education Religion Media

GERM Warfare. Here are some nutshell examples:

G. Why can't the United States Postal Service, with a couple centuries of experience, do what UPS and FedEx can do? While being horrendously inefficient, they still have time to fill out Suspicious Transaction Reports to alert the FBI or DEA or IRS of the purchase of large money orders or frequent mailing of packages.

E. Who wins the Spelling Bees every year? Home school or private school students. This is typical of the public schools performance - and yet public schools can't wait to take on more non-academic duties to make the next generation good (that is, ignorant and pliable) citizens.

R. Ever really considered how many terrible things have been done in the name of religion? Not to mention how effectively religion in general removes its participants from the people they supposedly want to 'save'. There's little more pitiful than a fish-on-the-bumper person who won't talk to you based on your hair, piercings, language, clothes, race, or any number of other things.

M. Isn't it great that the media not only gives us what we want, but also helps us decide what that is by what they decide to give us? The media, just like all of the above institutions, is guided by its prejudices, which in general are political in nature. Integrity falls apart in institutions just like people do - even if they go in sane.
